Natural Cures For That Itchy, Flaky Dandruff

Seborrheic dermatitis, more commonly known as dandruff, is the most prevalent disorder of the hair and scalp.  It frequently develops over a period of time.  Symptoms include flaky scalk, rashes, redness and itchiness on the scalp, and even pimples (in severe cases).  Dandruff can be triggered by any number of things, like changes in the weather, anxiety, and heredity.  There are plenty of products on the market that can clear up dandruff.  However, for some people, store-bought remedies just don’t do the trick.  In that case, there are some natural cures worth your time and attention, like dieting, homeopathy, aromatherapy, and natural ingredients.

Many health care professional believe that dandruff may be a sign of additional health conditions.  One thing you should avoid is eating too much fatty foods or excessive sugar intake.  These things are not only linked with dandruff but with tooth decay and abcess, diabetes, and health problems related to obesity.  As far as dandruff is concerned, foods rich in saturated fat make the scalp acidic and thick, and therefore prone to excess shedding of dry skin.  Of course, sugar and fats aren’t the only issue.  Even an overabundance of peanuts or dairy products can keep you from getting rid of dandruff.  Instead, be sure you’re getting plenty of vitamins (A, B1, and B2) and zinc.

Beyond eating healthy, there is also homeopathic treatment.  Sulphur, sepia, and oleander are effective remedies when taken three times each day for roughly 14 days.  Aromatherapy and ayurveda are good alternatives as well.

Natural ingredients which can improve the symptoms of dandruff are apple cider vinegar, tea tree oil, and biotin.  Biotin is a vitamin B supplement that dissolves in water.  It eliminates dandruff by flushing out the excess proteins, carbs, and fat cells in the body, making your body less acidic and less vulnerable to a dry scalp.  Tea tree oil has been shown in a few studies to also effectively treat flaky skin.  It can be found in pharmacies and health food markets.  You can either get it as a shampoo or as an ingredient to mix with your own favorite shampoo.  Apple cider vinegar is prevalent in supermarkets and should be mixed with water (1:1 ratio).  The best way to apply it is to put it in a spray bottle and apply to hair for about 30 minutes twice a week.  (If you use a spray bottle, be careful not to spray it in your eyes!)

These are just a few of the many natural cures for dandruff.  If you wish to find some more information on your own, speak to a pharmacist, health store professional, family physician, or surf online.
